New dorm & New life

This summer I moved to the new dorm. New dorm is rather big for an undergraduate student. It is basically an apartment, which is not common in any university in China. With washing machine, TV sets, Wi-Fi network, air conditioner, water heater, kitchen range, and refrigerator, it is also fully equipped. The dorm is designed for two people, but only I currently live here, because pandemic and strict policy keeps my foreign roommate from entering China. The room feels bigger but voider without a roommate. Still, the new life here is quite satisfying in every other way.

A small supermarket is located just 50 meters (150 feet, for the uncivilized people 😀) away from my block. It is a pleasure to buy a big, fresh watermelon in hot summer, put it inside the refrigerator overnight, and enjoy it the next two days. Also, some small restaurants with decent price and food quality are just nearby. It is very common to have a healthy meal with decent amount of meat using less 20 yuan, approximately 3.1 USD. Besides, two parks are inside 10 mins walk distance, and both are quite big. As a result, I can always see a flood of tree when I look out, despite the dorm locates not far from downtown.

Currently, I am having summer semester, and have a quite free schedule. So, I spent some free time socializing, by cooking with my friends. Well, I did not know exactly how to cook. We bought the seasoning based on our recall of what was on the kitchen bench at home. We cooked what we had tried at home. We flavored the dishes with no caution, but instinct. It turned out that I was not bad at that, at least, my fried cabbage tasted “eatable”. But no such luck for my friends. He seasoned the chicken with too much alcohol.

The chicken tasted like, well, a frustrated mid-aged drunkard that just came back from a bar that only provides 1960s Vodka.

However, it was still meat and we loved meat, so we had them all.

Overall, this place has the top infrastructure among universities in China, and consequently, there is no worry for everyday life, and thus, it is good for staying focus in academic and the things I love.
